James Millar
Architect & Director/ DipArch PGDip RIBA ARB RIAS
As a qualified Architect James has gained diverse and widespread experience in both residential and commercial projects throughout the UK.
Having graduated from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and Westminster University, London, James joined Archial Group, a multi-award winning, international practice where he focused on large scale commercial projects such as hotels, schools, offices and college master planning for clients including Local Authorities and the Ministry of Defence.
In 2010, James joined a niche London based residential practice, to pursue his interest in contemporary design and modern architecture. He worked on a number of high-end residential projects specialising in full refurbishment/renovation of private houses of varying scales, many including subterranean extensions in and around central London. With the experience and knowledge gained, James went on to form JAAM/ architects in 2013.

Maurice Smith
Architect/ DipArch PGDip RIBA ARB
Maurice joined JAAM/ architects in 2017. With a primary interest in materiality, detailing and a passion for architectural history, he has varied experience, from small scale architectural projects to Master Planning and Interior Design.
After graduating from The University of East London in 2012, Maurice joined David Collins Studio, a high-end Interior Design studio specialising in the luxury retail and commercial sectors. He focused primarily on fashion retail projects for clients such as Alexander McQueen and Jimmy Choo, working on joinery and furniture design/detailing. During this time he also gained broad experience working within different teams designing hotels, hospitality facilities and bespoke residential projects.
In 2019 Maurice returned to Kingston University to complete his RIBA Part III. Since qualifying Maurice has taken on the day to day running of his own projects at JAAM/ as well as continuing to be an integral part of the daily running of the studio.

Fergal O’Connor
Architectural Assistant/ BSc (Hons) MArch
Fergal began with JAAM/ architects in early 2022. He has experience both in large and small scale projects and has worked on the preservation of existing structures as well as new build work.
Upon completing his undergraduate degree at University College Cork in 2019, Fergal moved to New York. There, he worked for Douglas J. Lister Architects, a boutique firm focused on the preservation and restoration of historic structures around New York City. He primarily worked on the extensive renovation of a protected apartment block in Queens. Whilst there, he met with clients, attended site visits and put together detailed drawing packages for planning and tender.
In 2020, Fergal returned to University College Cork where he graduated from a master’s in architecture degree in late 2021. His masters project, [Ex]Isles, was exhibited as part of the RIAI Scott Tallon Walker Student Excellence Award. Shortly after completing his studies he moved to London and joined the JAAM team. Since joining, Fergal has worked closely with all members of the team on multiple projects, gaining valuable on site experience, advancing his drawing and details skills and liaising with clients.
